3.5 Gaining Commitment

Gain Commitment

Well Training

To get support for decisions, involve your team in the decision making process (where you can).

Not everyone is going to agree on the best course of action, but you can make sure that teammates have a say in decisions by organising team decision making effectively.

Well Training

Make sure that everyone has a chance to voice their opinion, including the quieter members of your team. When decisions lead to change, work on building support, be open about how decisions were made.

You need your team to make their own decisions in good time, even when some of the facts may be uncertain.Highlight the consequences of not making timely decisions and encourage the team to use their initiative to take things forward.

Set clear deadlines for team members, so they’re forced to commit to a course of action, and avoid micromanaging the decision making process.
